been involved with horses for eight years. Rose started volunteering at Days End Rescue Farm in Woodbine and Therapeutic Recreational
Riding Center in Glenwood. Rose took lessons at both places for almost a year and competed in a few horse shows at TRRC. Getting
away from the horses for several years made Rose realize her passion still for them. Rose adopted her first rescue horse named
Oscar from Days End Farm about six years ago. Shortly after, Rose purchased a horse named Archie for her son. In March of
2005, Rose and her family purchased and moved to a thirteen acre farm in Sykesville. Rose then owned nine loving horses each
with such different personalities.
Rose is a certified Level I riding instructor through CHA. Rose was the director
and owner of Mills Farm Equestrian Farm Summer Camp in 2006 and was the supervising instructor in the arena. Rose taught a
Horse Safety Program of basic horse care, riding, and safety rules. Rose also taught private and semi private English lessons
for beginners and intermediate riders.
Rose has been taking riding lessons for about eight years with various riding
instructors.Rose is a devoted and determined riding instructor and diligent student. Rose holds a certification in Equine
Psychotherapy. Her love for people, horses and her study in psychology during her two years in college, all guided her to
have pursued this certification.
Rose and her husband sold their farm in December of 2007. The horses had moved temporarily
to a farm in Howard County for about five months while the new house and barn were being built. Rose and her husband designed
the barn to their specific needs and that of the horses. In December of 2008 Rose and her family moved into their new home
built on six and a half acres with a lovely barn and six of their best behaved horses.
Rose continues to teach riding
lessons and the horse safety program. Rose has included a scout program and pony birthday parties. Rose’s new Therapeutic
Farm is a faith based Non-Denominational Organization. Rose’s real passion is to work with children and
adults with disabilities, the mentally challenged, and youths at risk.
In the spring of 2008 Rose volunteered at the
AG Center in Carroll County for children with disabilities. Rose pursued her NARHA certification as a riding instructor,
for children and adults with disabilities. Rose took her certification in June 2009 and she passed her teaching
exam. On Septmber 19th 2009 Rose judged her first horse for regular and special need riders at Howard County Fairgrounds.
Rose found it to be fun but very challenging.
In the past summer of 2009, the Mills Farm purchased our first draft horse
named Dianna, for our bigger riders. Mills Farm had our first fundraiser on November 7th 2009 to help pay for some
equipment needed for our horse and riders. It was pretty successful.
In March of 2010 Rose set her booth up at
the AG Center in Caroll County. There was lots of interest generated and Rose got a few volunteers from it.Volunteers
are so important to the program and we are always in need of them.
On April14th and 28th Mills Farm had their first
field trip for home schooled childen. The children had so much fun learning safety, grooming, and riding the horses. Everyone
was amazed at how organized we were.
In october of 2011, Rose started working with adults with disabilities through
the agency called Flying Colors. Rose got certified as a CMT (certified medical technician),which enables her to give out
medications to her clients under a licensed nurse. Rose enjoys going to the different homes to assist in their needs especially,
since a few of her clients come out to the Mills Farm to take therapeutic riding lessons.
Rose’s programs are
carefully structured to suit the individual needs of the participants, and are designed using proven techniques and methodologies.
Mills Farm Therapeutic Riding Program uses working with horses and horse related activities to foster and enhance the physical,
